After visiting the eventful Farmer's Day in Union, the past two days have been pretty easy. On Sunday, Erica and Linda visited McMillan Methodist Church which is out Friar's Hill Road only ten minutes from the farm. I didn't attend because the prior days of rain and the events of Farmer's Day kept me from getting to brush-hog the lower fields. The old church was established in 1889, which makes me kick myself for not going yesterday because my research in history focuses on the late 19th century.
Anyway, I brush-hogged Sunday morning and the rest of the day was left to rest. As usual we had a good dinner and Erica and I sat out under the stars last night. The stars(!), we haven't even mentioned them. At night there are stars clear and bright from the tips of the mountain tops across the entire, viewable sky. Outside of that, the only other thing shining are literally thousands of lightning bugs (or fireflies depending on where you're from) that randomly light up the surrounding forest. The nights up here are silent and stellar.
Today we tinkered with the tractors and did a little yard work, but most of the time I was focused on getting packed up to head back to Birmingham for a few weeks. That's right, if you run to the mountains for a few weeks, your pocket book begins to dwindle. So, Erica is going to be posting (probably still under "Josh") basically the entire month of June. She is really going to add some flavor and different perspective to the blog. On the docket: wildflowers, progress in the garden (which is coming along just great), the arrival of Big Sam, and construction on the house. It looks like some real work is going to start this week if the weather holds, which it should according to those flim-flam meteorologists.
We've had such a good three weeks here, and several months for the ladies, on the farm (and on the blog!) and things are really going to pick up from here. For me personally, I really enjoy the tractor work around here, so here are some tractor pictures!
So long till the end of June and good luck to Erica and Linda who will forge on (it's in their blood)!
If it looks like I'm asking it a question.... I am. But this is a family website! |
