Thursday and Friday we spent much of the day cutting grass and weed eating around the rocks where we've set up camp. But the real story is Erica's ingenious idea to set up a camp shower with the solar shower bag so we could have hot showers.
In the pictures below you'll see the shower. You step into one side and the other compartment (no partition) has mesh around the border of the floor for the last two inches or so. This way, the water you use flows right out. We've elected to use all-natural soap, although I'm sure many of you may call this hippie-tree-hugging. We like to believe that we take care of what we have to our best ability. Anyway, the real problem I was having was how to fill the solar water bag and then get it and/or the hose into the tent.
Well, we found some sort of pole (13 feet) in the barn and we managed to dig a 2 1/2 foot hole to place it in. After putting in a few rocks in an attempt to bolster it, we filled it with dirt and used the old tamper (and I mean OLD) to set it in. On the top of the pole is an eye where a chord runs through to hoist the bag. A pulley would have been better as this makes for a ton of friction and too much effort (I couldn't even get it to hoist all the way and back down). So we tied it off where it was and will use a step stool to fill the bag. Erica cut a slight hole under the rain canopy on the mesh roof and inserted the hose.
So, after the grass cutting on Friday I had had enough of the no shower/baby wipe method. Covered in grass I stripped and got right in. One problem, the overcast day meant our solar power was useless. Even so, the cold water was invigorating and it had to be one of the best showers of my life! Erica got a picture of me, so I got one of her too!
